DCSWCC NOW FIVE YEARS OLD
A long time ago, in our nation’s capital region.
August 19, 2008 marked the fifth anniversary of The Washington DC Metro Area Star Wars Collecting Club (DCSWCC). Back in the summer of 2003, Mike Kurtz
convened 18 local die-hard Star Wars collectors in a library basement.
DCSWCC is now one of the largest and most active Star Wars collecting clubs
in America, with over 110 members. The club meets monthly and holds special
events such as socials and “Roadshow” appraisal events throughout the year.
DCSWCC members have attended all major Star Wars events and held prominent
volunteer positions at JediCon in West Virginia, Celebration III in
Indianapolis, Celebration IV in Los Angeles, Celebration Europe in London,
and Celebration Japan in Tokyo.
Throughout the last five years, DCSWCC and its members have contributed
significantly to the Star Wars fandom and have supported children of the local communities. Mainly through sales of exclusive Lucasfilm-sanctioned
cloisonne lapel pins featuring Yoda, Chewbacca, and Boba Fett, DCSWCC has
raised over $14,000 for charities such as DC Children’s Hospital, The
Children’s Inn at NIH, the Aluminum Cans for Burned Children Program, United
Mitochondrial Disease Fund, and the 501st’s Katie Johnson Fund. In
addition, members have donated countless canned goods and toys to local food
pantries and Toys for Tots campaigns.
DCSWCC’s latest charity pin drive is still underway, with less than 200 pins
remaining. You can help them reach their goal of $6000 — please visit http://store.dcswcc.org and order your pin now!
Happy belated birthday, DCSWCC!

The South membership spent a perfect summer day at the home of OSWCC President Mark Schnack on August 9th. There was great food, good conversation and a lot of Clone Wars merchandise for sale and show. Check out the photos here.

Hasbro just released the all new, extremely improved Falcon and customizer Peter Clute saw even more potential to improve it. More paint detail, motion and infrared sensors and some LED’s and it goes from pretty cool to darn near the real thing. (Shooting model, not the real real thing..)
Check it out over at Gizmodo.

A big thanks to everyone who came out and made the 2008 Summer Social a big success! Folks from all over Ohio (and even Kentucky!) made the trip to Cincinnati for a great day of Star Wars fun. There was a great buy-sell-trade area, presentations from Kim Simmons and Scott Simmons about their involvement with the vintage line at Kenner, prizes, gaming, food, an auction, raffles, and more! There were even a few Imperials and Jedi sighted at the Social. We hope you enjoyed the day with us, we had an awesome time hosting it. Some of the photos are here with more to come.

Due to some last minute unforseen issues, we’ve had to change the location for tomorrow’s Summer Social. THE SOCIAL IS STILL ON - We are just changing the location due to facility issues.
The Social will NOW be held at the Oakley Masonic Temple in Cincinnati - the same place we held it in 2005. The temple is easy to get to off of Interstate 71, and is very close the old The Earth Collectible Toy Mall and other great “must see” attractions.
Oakley Masonic Temple
3515 Madison Rd
Cincinnati, OH 45209
Here is a Google Maps link to the location - which you can use to generate directions.
Note you must turn the corner south onto Ridge Ave., and then turn left into the edition on Orkley Lane. Take another immediate left onto Orkley Avenue, and follow down to Madison Park Ave. The Temple and the entrance to the parking lot will be right in front of you.
We apologize for this last-minute change of location. I full explanation of why will follow shortly. Thank you for your understanding.
